Global Environmental Remote Sensing (GERS) Laboratory
-
Where is the GERS Lab located? The GERS Lab is located at the University of Connecticut, Storrs campus.
-
Can I visit the GERS Lab?Absolutely! EnviroScience4kids wants to expand our knowledge of how the remote sensing technology being used at the GERS Lab can thelp us find solutions to many of our environmental challenges we have today. We are the next generation so we have to start now! Absolutely! EnviroScience4kids wants to expand our knowledge of how the remote sensing technology being used at the GERS Lab can help us find solutions to many of our environmental challenges we have today. To schedule a visit, email us at enviroscience4kids@gmail.com. We are able to arrange for on campus visits of small groups or we can come to your school to do a presentation about the tools used at the GERS Lab!
-
Who funds the GERS Lab?Most university research centers are funded by outside sources that may come from private citizens, private foundations, university funding or government grants and funding. The GERS Lab has become renown for their success and have a long established relationship with NASA. Much of their work is funded by NASA. You can see an active list of research grants here.
-
Where can I learn more about remote global sensing? There are several websites and open source research articles that can provide you with more detailed information. Try looking at Nasa's remote sensing EARTHDATA.
-
Why is it important for us to know about the GERS Lab?We are the next generation that will inherit an Earth that has been and continues to be changing at an alarming rate--and not for the better. The more people understand how we can use technology to understand the changes of global patterns, the more financial support these research centers will receive. This will result in further development of key technological advances that will hopefully inform our policy decisions.

I'm a science teacher, what can I do?Contact us! We can help you better understand how you can integrate the work of the GERS Lab into your curriculum. We can arrange for fellows from the GERS Lab to come visit your school and be a guest speaker. In addition, learning about the GERS Lab at UCONN can help your students learn about possible careers that they hadn't considered before. It's exciting work that can ignite that imagination of any science class! Write to us at enviroscience4kids@gmail.com.

Is there a fee to visit the GERS Lab, have a fellow come to my school?Absolutely not! This is a civic engagement project. Our goal is to strengthen the scientific community of kids 12 to 18. We want to engage students, teachers, administrator, and community leaders to understand how technology can help inform our public police on the environment.
